An initial time limit specified by main time is granted to each player.
 
If the main time has run out, the game ...

• ... is over, when no overtime has been negotiated, or
  
• ... is not over, when there is a defined overtime (see Japanese byo-yomi, Canadian byo-yomi, Fischer time).
